Supporting Women’s Health and Wellness

For much of modern history, clinical trials and health studies focused mainly on men. Women and their specific needs were overlooked or not adequately addressed. Discussing so-called “female problems” is still often considered taboo. So, Integrated Project Management Company, Inc. (IPM) supported women’s health and wellness for its most recent Integrated Project Mercy efforts.

“Women’s health and wellness are pivotal aspects that shape not only individual lives but entire communities,” says Eni Bica, a Director in IPM’s Boston office, who co-led the company’s quarterly philanthropic project with Consultant Ashley Mallat. “Empowering women to prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional well-being fosters a ripple effect of positive change.”

Volunteers from the Boston office packed period kits for Dignity Matters. The local non-profit organization distributes menstrual products, bras, and underwear to homeless and disadvantaged women and girls. The team packed more than 12,000 items, as well as notes of encouragement, into 619 kits. Boston IPMers also collected over 200 bras and delivered them with a financial donation to Dignity Matters.

Packaged with Care

Similarly, in St. Louis, several IPM volunteers supported Our Lady’s Inn, a maternity home for pregnant women and dependent children who are homeless and in crisis. It offers housing, peri-natal support and education, and help with parenting, educational, employment, housing, and mental-wellness needs. The team gift-wrapped personal and maternity care packages with pregnancy pillows, nursing care items, and other necessities. They also provided slippers for the moms and children.

IPMers in the Chicago office packed wellness bags for A Safe Place. The non-profit supports victims of domestic violence and human trafficking directly, as well as through intervention programs and community education. IPM donated 50 tote bags filled with water bottles, towels, wireless earbuds, wellness journals, hair ties, and granola bars. They also tucked in healthy recipes and motivating notes from the volunteers.

And the New Jersey team supported the Diva for a Day Foundation. The program provides women with cancer a complete day of pampering at a full-service salon and spa. The foundation can’t give a spa day to all who are nominated, so they send gift boxes with health and beauty items like those the New Jersey volunteers packed and shipped.

Acting Locally and Globally

The Los Angeles team supported the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center’s 50th Anniversary Gala by helping to set up, check in guests, and manage the auction. The center provides advocacy, support, and services to survivors and families affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. It also provides community awareness and prevention education.

While the L.A. team dressed up, volunteers in Minneapolis dressed down. They worked at the warehouse of MATTER 360, sorting medical devices for redistribution to places where they are needed the most. MATTER 360 collects excess or expired medical supplies and equipment from hospitals and manufacturers to help people around the world. The IPMers also donated funds for equipment to diagnose and treat cervical cancer; it will be sent to healthcare providers in third-world countries who normally would not have access to this kind of treatment.

Education is Power

In San Francisco, a team organized a series of educational sessions to better understand women’s health challenges and identify opportunities for positive impact in both their personal and professional lives. They also donated to the Society for Women’s Health Research, a non-profit addressing unmet needs and research gaps in women’s health through a combination of science, policy, and education.
